Executive One-Page Strategy & Investment Prioritization
A focused, ready-to-fill one-page template that summarizes strategic objectives, the top initiatives that advance them, quantified expected impact, key risks and mitigations, required resources, and the concrete decision being requested from leaders.
Purpose
Use this one-page template to surface the essential trade-offs, expected outcomes, and resource asks so leaders can decide quickly. Keep language concise, quantify impact where possible, and show the clear link between the initiative and the strategic objective.
How to use this template
- Limit content to one page. Use short bullets and simple numbers.
- Quantify impact as much as practical (dollars, time saved, risk reduction, revenue, customer retention, quality improvement).
- List no more than three initiatives; prioritize and ask for a single clear decision.
- Attach supporting detail only if reviewers request it; the one-pager should stand on its own for a go/no-go decision.
Template (fill each section)
One succinct sentence describing the strategic goal this supports (e.g., "Reduce order-to-delivery lead time to improve customer retention and lower expediting costs").

Initiative name — one-line title
Short description: 1–2 bullets explaining what you will do.
Expected impact (quantified where possible): primary metric, baseline, and target (for example: reduce lead time from 10 to 8 days = 20% improvement, estimated $120k annual savings).
Timeframe: major milestones and expected completion date.
Key risk(s) & mitigation: list top risk and the mitigations / owner.
Required resources: budget, headcount/FTE, key skills, third-party needs, equipment (show numbers where possible).
- Repeat structure for initiative 2.
- Repeat structure for initiative 3.
Short aggregated statement connecting initiatives to the strategic objective. Include high-level numbers (e.g., total additional run-rate profit, % risk reduction, capacity increase).
3–5 highest-level risks that decision-makers should be aware of, with the most important mitigations and owners.
Be explicit. For example: "Approve $450,000 capital + 2 FTEs for Initiative A to start by Q4. Approve pilot for Initiative B (Q4) subject to milestone X. Or return for more information."
List the key dependencies (other projects, third-party delivery, regulatory approvals) and top assumptions that, if untrue, would change the decision.
Name, role, and contact for follow-up.
Mini example (one initiative)
Strategic objective: Improve customer retention by improving on-time delivery performance.
Initiative: Order fulfillment optimization pilot — re-balance work cells and add scheduling tool.
Expected impact: On-time delivery up from 85% to 93% within 6 months; estimated reduction in expediting costs $110k/year; customer churn reduction equivalent to $250k/year revenue retained.
Timeframe: Pilot Q4 (3 months) → scale Q2 next year.
Top risk & mitigation: Implementation delays due to legacy systems — mitigate by temporary manual schedule rules and a targeted IT patch; risk owner: Ops Director.
Resources requested: $120k one-time tool license + 0.5 FTE for 6 months.
Decision requested: Approve pilot funding of $120k and 0.5 FTE; return if budget must be reallocated.
Tips for reviewers
- Look first for the link to strategy and the single clear ask. If the numbers are plausible and the risk mitigations address the main blockers, indicate approval or a narrow list of questions.
- If you need more detail, ask for a short appendix that shows the calculations and assumptions rather than re-opening the one-page itself.
Versioning and attachments
Use this one-page as the summary. Keep supporting documents (financial model, timeline, resource plan) attached and referenced, but not included on the one-pager.
