Quick experiment design checklist (use right before data collection)

1. Primary hypothesis & outcome written: Primary outcome defined with unit and timing.
2. Success criteria clear: Decision rule or threshold recorded.
3. Sample size considered: Planned sample size and justification noted (or plan to compute it).
4. Randomization method set: Randomization and blocking defined where needed.
5. Blinding decided: Who is blinded and how, or why blinding is impossible.
6. Measurement protocol locked: Instruments, calibration, and SOP referenced.
7. Data capture & storage located: Raw and processed data destinations are recorded.
8. Analysis method pre-specified: Primary statistical test and handling of covariates recorded.
9. Missing data plan noted: How dropouts/missing observations will be addressed.
10. QC steps listed: How sample quality, batch effects, or operator variability will be checked.
11. Approvals in place: Necessary approvals, registrations, or documentation completed.
12. Pre-registration status: Plan saved, timestamped, or recorded in team repository.
13. Team alignment: Team members know who does what and how deviations will be recorded.

Tip: Use this checklist as a short launch ritual. Spend 5–10 minutes confirming each item rather than making decisions on the fly.
