Use these formulas to estimate outcomes before you run the experiment.

  • Estimated monthly savings = Baseline monthly cost × (Expected reduction % / 100)
  • Payback period (months) = Implementation cost / Estimated monthly savings
  • Annualized benefit = Estimated monthly savings × 12

  • Labor productivity / standard work: 2–12% of labor cost — experiment: reduce non-value tasks, test balanced work cell.
  • Material yield / scrap reduction: 1–8% of material cost — experiment: defect source elimination, tooling tweaks.

Define what success looks like quantitatively and qualitatively. Include minimum savings or no-impact clauses for quality/delivery.
Assess whether the change could harm quality or delivery in the short run.
Describe steps to ensure quality and delivery are protected during the experiment (e.g., extra inspection, hold sample, customer notification).
