Focus: project ownership, experimental design, collaboration, compliance.
- 0–30 days: Understand team goals, review active protocols, complete required safety training, attend team meetings, begin literature read-ahead for assigned project.
- 31–60 days: Lead a small experimental design review, supervise a technician for a pilot assay, demonstrate correct protocol execution under observation.
- 61–90 days: Own the experimental plan for an initial milestone, present preliminary approach at a lab meeting, demonstrate adherence to data management and reproducibility practices.
- Success criteria: Able to explain and defend chosen methods, approvals in place, first pilot executed with mentor sign-off.
Technician — sample outcomes
Focus: hands-on competence, equipment safety, reproducible execution.
- 0–30 days: Complete site safety orientation, shadow basic workflows, run checklist-based rehearsals of core assays.
- 31–60 days: Demonstrate independent setup and teardown of key equipment, perform routine QC, and keep accurate lab notebook entries.
- 61–90 days: Train peers on at least one routine procedure, handle minor troubleshooting, and maintain inventory records.
- Success criteria: Competency sign-offs for core assays and instruments, zero critical deviations in supervised runs.
Data Scientist — sample outcomes
Focus: data access, pipelines, reproducible analysis, collaboration with wet lab.
