Use this printed checklist during a 60–90 minute walkthrough to capture the easiest‑to‑miss issues.

General

  • Are utility bills for the past 12 months available? (Yes / No)
  • Is there a named facilities contact on site? (Name / Contact)
  • Are any meters inaccessible or unlabeled? (Yes / No)

Energy

  • Lights on in unoccupied spaces after hours (Yes / No)
  • Thermostats overridden or inconsistent setpoints (Yes / No)
  • HVAC units running during off‑hours (Yes / No)
  • Visible air/leakage at doors or loading docks (Yes / No)
  • Obvious damaged insulation on pipes or ducts (Yes / No)
  • Compressed air leaks audible or visible (Yes / No)

Water

  • Dripping fixtures or running toilets observed (Yes / No)
  • Irrigation running during rain or overnight (Yes / No)
  • Visible cooling tower issues (overflowing, scale) (Yes / No / N/A)
  • Backflow prevention or treatment systems clearly labeled (Yes / No / N/A)

Waste

  • Single‑use items dominant where reusable alternatives are feasible (Yes / No)
  • Food waste being separated on site (Yes / No)
  • Construction or hazardous waste stored without clear controls (Yes / No)

Emissions & fuels

  • On‑site combustion equipment with poor maintenance signs (soot, leaks) (Yes / No / N/A)
  • Service vehicles idling while loading/unloading (Yes / No)
  • Refrigerant lines or equipment with visible oil stains (possible leaks) (Yes / No / N/A)

People & processes

  • Staff aware of basic sustainability practices (waste sorting, shutdown procedures) (Yes / No)
  • Signs or training visible to support good practices (Yes / No)
  • Any recent operational changes that could affect resource use (new shift, new equipment) (Describe)
