Technology Scouting & Triage Report

Use this report to capture a concise, decision-ready view of an emerging technology. The form structures the essential signals — why it matters here, potential use cases and value, readiness and integration complexity, supporting evidence, and recommended next steps. Fill the fields to create a consistent scouting record that can be reviewed, compared, and acted on.

Summarize the core idea, the most important reason to care, and the one-line recommendation (e.g., monitor / safe trial / partner / pass).
List specific ways the technology could be used in your organization, who benefits, and the likely value (qualitative or a simple dollar/time estimate).
1 = negligible, 5 = transformational. Use this to help prioritize across opportunities.
1.0 10.0
1 = research concept, 3 = prototype / early deployments, 5 = proven, widely adopted. Consider technical readiness, ecosystem maturity, and availability of vendor support.
1.0 10.0
1 = trivial to integrate, 5 = major architecture change or heavy compliance impact. Include people, processes, data, and security considerations.

Link to vendor pages, research papers, demo notes, video links, or internal POC results. Note credibility and any replication performed.
List the principal technical, regulatory, supplier, or adoption risks and one-line mitigations or guardrails.
Choose the immediate recommended disposition for this technology
Describe a minimal viable pilot: outcomes to test, boundaries, target teams/sites, and necessary inputs. Keep pilots short and focused.
List 2–4 measurable criteria that would count as a successful pilot (metrics, thresholds, qualitative acceptance factors).
Ballpark cost to run the pilot (equipment, vendor fees, internal labor). Use integers and specify currency in the notes or attachments.
Typical pilot should be timeboxed (e.g., 4–12 weeks).
Name roles or individuals who should own further exploration or the pilot. Include sponsors if known.
When should this be re-reviewed (e.g., next quarter), or date for decision after pilot completion?
Paste URLs or brief references to related documents stored elsewhere.
Use this suggested quick formula and enter the result manually: Priority = (maturity * 2) + (estimated value rank * 2) - integration complexity. Range approx 0–18. Higher = higher priority. (Maturity, value rank, complexity use their 1–5 scales.)
E.g., assign owner, schedule vendor call, run 8-week pilot, add to monitor list, or close and archive. Be specific about who and when.
