How to use this curriculum

The curriculum is intentionally modular and adaptable.   • Exercise: Draft a screener and consent script for a sample study, including privacy and compensation notes.

Rapid Interview Lab

Purpose: Build interviewing skill through short, repeated practice sessions and rapid synthesis.

  • Learning objectives: Conduct a neutral interview, capture verbatim highlights, and produce a 1–page synthesis.
  • Exercise: Run three 20-minute paired interviews, then generate a 1-page insight memo from combined notes.
  • Assessment checkpoint: Instructor or peer scoring against a communication & analysis rubric.

Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) Basics

Purpose: Give hands-on exposure to core EDA techniques and the habit of checking assumptions before modeling or reporting.

  • Learning objectives: Run basic descriptive analysis, identify outliers and missingness, and produce visual summaries suitable for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exercise: Execute a short EDA on a shared dataset and produce three visualizations with plain-language takeaways.
  • Assessment checkpoint: Submit a one-page EDA summary evaluated for clarity, correctness, and next-step recommendations.

Hypothesis Writing

Purpose: Teach clear hypothesis formulation that links assumptions to measurable outcomes and research methods.

  • Learning objectives: Write testable hypotheses, identify required data and measures, and choose appropriate methods to validate them.
  • Exercise: Convert three open-ended team questions into measurable hypotheses and propose matching study designs.

Experiment Protocols

Purpose: Provide a template-backed workflow for designing, documenting, and handoff-ready experiment plans.

  • Learning objectives: Create a protocol with clear trigger conditions, success metrics, controls, and ethical safeguards.
  • Exercise: Prepare an experiment protocol for a small, low-risk product change using the team's template.

Knowledge Capture & Discoverability

Purpose: Ensure research outputs are reusable: standardized briefs, metadata, indexing, and handoff artifacts so insights remain discoverable and actionable.

  • Learning objectives: Use the team's research brief template, tag artifacts with searchable metadata, and deposit outputs into the knowledge repository.
  • Exercise: Publish a completed research brief to the team's repository and add relevant tags, related tickets, and a short summary for leadership.
