Purpose

This template helps teams create short, visual, point‑of‑work digital work instructions (DWIs) and microlearning units that reduce variation, speed onboarding, and capture site‑specific skills. Use it to teach exactly what to do, when to stop and check, and how to recover from common problems.

Microlearning clip guidance

  • Keep clips short (10–30 seconds) and focused on the one critical visual point for the step.
  • Use close‑ups for handwork, slow motion for fast motions, and annotated arrows/text to highlight tolerances or alignment marks.
  • Include captions and a brief voiceover naming the action and the quality check.
  • Host media in a stable, access‑controlled location and reference it by URL in the instruction so the media can be updated independently.

Validation & floor testing

  1. Draft the instruction using the template.
  2. Have a subject‑matter expert (SME) and at least one operator follow it aloud while someone observes. Note confusion, delays, or skipped steps.
  3. Revise immediately to remove ambiguity and re‑test until no critical steps are missed.
  4. Document the validation (who, when, key findings) in the change log.

Versioning, ownership, and permissions

  • Assign an owner for each DWI who is responsible for validation and keeping media current.

  • Restrict edits to trained authors but allow operators to file improvement suggestions directly against the instruction.
