This workbook helps you gather the facts a finite scheduler needs: constraint assets and their available capacity, prioritized orders, sequencing rules, and buffer policies. Use the execution-readiness checklist to confirm the schedule can be released. You can paste orders as a simple CSV (example below), save this worksheet, and use it as a baseline for your short-term planning meetings.

Notes on scope: this workbook collects the structured inputs that a finite scheduler or visual planning board needs. It does not attempt to run an automated scheduler here — it prepares reliable inputs and documents sequencing rules and readiness so your team can produce a high-quality finite schedule and reduce last-minute firefighting.

How many production shifts operate per calendar day (e.g., 1, 2, 3).
Typical length of a single shift in hours (exclude breaks).
A simple baseline capacity value you commonly use when estimating load. Use granular capacity in the Constraint assets field when different assets vary.
List each constrained asset on its own line as: AssetName,CapacityPerShift(hrs),Notes. Example: PressA,8,Only on day shift
Paste the orders you plan to consider. Required CSV columns: OrderID,Qty,DueDate(YYYY-MM-DD),SetupMins,RunMins,Family,MarginRank. Example: ORD-102,200,2026-08-18,30,45,WidgetA,High
Choose the rule the scheduler should use first when capacity is constrained.
Pick all sequencing rules that should be enforced in the short-term schedule.
Choose how you want to protect the constrained resource from variability.
Enter a number when you selected Time buffer (leave blank otherwise).
A locked BOM reduces schedule changes and rework.
Describe how you treat true rush orders, escalation path, and who approves schedule changes.
Use this to capture exceptions, vendor lead-time warnings, planned maintenance, or other constraints.
